Excellent basic on/off switch

I really like the large STOP paddle on this. It's really convenient to just slap at it to turn my table saw off. The recessed start button is a nice safety feature also.Please note, this is NOT a magnetic switch. This is a basic on/off switch. That means that if your power goes out, blow a breaker, et cetera, the switch will stay in the on position unless you turn it off yourself. For most people, this is not an issue. A magnetic switch, on the other hand, is basically a switch like this with the addition of a large relay. The switch turns on the relay, the relay turns on the machine. The advantages of the relay are the fact that in a power failure, it won't turn on automatically, and it's also useful for very large pieces of equipment (more than 5 horsepower) so you don't have lots of current running through the switch that the operator is using.Don't worry about the fact that this isn't a magnetic starter, this is totally fine. You won't find a magnetic starter for this cost, they generally start at around $30 for the low-end systems.I highly recommend this switch. It's super easy to install, works great. You can add it anywhere really, since all you have to do is add an electrical box. Get a nice deep electrical box, it will help during the installation. I used a remodel style electrical box so I could easily mount it on a plywood panel in front of the saw. There are electrical boxes available that have mounting flanges on it, perfect for installing on a drill press or elsewhere.I do NOT have a gap between the box and the switch like the other reviewer does. Make sure to cut the sheathing on your wire back all the way to the box, that will make it easier to fold the wire in when you put the box in. If you have a gap, google stuff like how to install a light switch so you can see the correct technique to folding the wires into the box. The switch fits just fine into my deep electrical box.Anyway, buy this switch, you'll be happy you did. I no longer have to reach OVER my table saw in order to turn it on or off from the switch on the motor!

Not as discribed.

Description not correct, this switch does not fit a standard electrical box and the screws are not standard. Them seem to be metric.It took me about one hour to install, would have taken longer if I had to go to store for parts to make it work. Should have been a 5 min. job.

great switch

The switch works perfectly, however I agree with other reviewers that it requires a little imagination to install. I started with wires hanging out of an older band saw. I found the only box that would fit was a plastic outdoor conduit box. After drilling some mounting holes and experimenting using washers to correctly space the switch in the box I was finally able to put it all together and have a fully functional band saw again. I would recommend this switch to anyone needing to erplace a power saw switch.
