Hitachi 18V Lithium-Ion Batteries are GREAT in my opinion...

I've had a set of Hitachi drills for almost 5 years. I used them rather lightly the first 2 or 3 years. However, for the past 2 years I've been using my impact EVERY workday including OVERTIME! It continues to be a workhorse! NO BATTERY PROBLEMS at all!! When I am not using my impact, somebody else usually is. When their Dewalts or Makitas won't do the job, they use mine. My co-workers have been very impressed with my impact driver. They even pointed it out to the superintendent, and even he was impressed at how powerful it is.I wish I could say that I take good care of it, but I don't. It gets full of dust. It gets tossed around, even dropped from ladders a few times, both the impact driver and the 2 batteries have been VERY IMPRESSIVE!! Still going strong. I've had it for at least 4 1/2 years!! It just refuses to die! GREAT PRODUCT based on my experience.

These tools have been a lot more useful that I had anticipated. I'm constantly finding uses for them around the house. It was a large purchase, but has been worthwhile.

Hitachi 18v Li-ion battery problems!

I know it seems to be a common fault, these batteries not charging. I had one do the same nearly a year ago. Read a post else where about "jump starting" the battery by using a working battery. Simply connect the positive and negative terminals with some insulated wire. Hold for a minuet or so and then put the faulty battery back in the charger. It works! Like I said my battery has been dead for nearly a year and it's charging and working in the drill again!
