Works Great!

I've been doing lots of interior room painting on our house and have been spending large amounts of time "cutting in" the edges of wall surfaces with a brush. I saw this Trim-it and decided to give it a try and I have to say it works great as advertized. It put the paint on very quickly, precisely and cleanly. It did not drip once. Easy clean up when I was done. I did burn through one head in using it. I was going over some fairly rough texture on part of the job and it kind of wore a corner area of bristle away. I've just ordered some replacement heads for it. I look forward to doing the rest of my cutting in work with this fne tool.

Has It's Place

I purchased this tool and the Paint-Mate Plus, used them on a couple of recent projects and they're both more-than-decent products. The Paint Mate Plus is a time saver & a half but anyone that's ever painted a room knows that cutting in around trim & corners is tedious and in some cases, takes more time than the 'meat' of the paint job. This tool was trickier and took more getting used to than most of the paint, power & hand tools I've ever owned.That said, loading it involves simultaneously, squeezing the trigger, dipping the tip and tugging the plunger. Then and, most importantly, RELEASE THE TRIGGER, if you let go of the plunger w/o releasing the trigger at this point, paint will shoot out of the nozzle back into the can or WORSE if it's pointed outside the can. Now we can snap the head of choice on this. Getting the right flow is tough at first, a gentle ~nudge~ on the trigger is all it takes to feed the pad. TAPE, because paint will get on the guide bumps and drag paint onto the adjacent surface so tape or go real slow w/ wet rags handy. Coverage wasn't there for me at first, very discouraging but that was my fault. Considering these tiny bristles we have to move methodically & not starve them of paint. Clean up is no worse than cleaning brushes & rollers and the available cornering pad makes for some versatility. It won't replace a good brush, however, it does give the brush & arm a rest.*Update: Used this once again and had a leak through the trigger. I decided to clean it up, open it & figure out why and it was missing the seal that sit's where the tool meets the head pad attachment. I replaced it with an rubber 0-ring and it's going well.**Update: Leave this one alone. I downgraded to 3 stars from 4 because although it worked for a few months the valves are failing and the cheap plastic parts have cracked making it unsable. This is one gadget that I can't recommend.

Honestly, I was a bit skeptical when I picked this item up, but I was desperate for any tricks to help me cut down my painting time. Wow! Did this ever exceed my expectations!Once filled, it took me about five minutes to get used to the feel of the tool--the flow of the paint released each time the button was pushed, and angles that led to dripping. After that, it was smooth sailing. I knocked off our living room (c. 12'x20' with two large windows) in about 30 minutes, and that includes some time I used to help tape some trim. [I had the standard head, and had also picked up a corner head.] Using the Trim-It was much easier and quicker than using my typical two inch brush.The key is getting just enough paint out as you are moving along. Hold the button down too long, or have the heel of the paint head up too high, and you'd get drips. Once I got the hang of it, I was able to get the wall-ceiling perimeter, the floor-trim perimeter, the areas adjacent to the window trim, and the narrow space between the window trim and the ceiling in short order.To fill the tool, you remove the painting head (a few different types are available), insert the nozzle end into the paint pan or can, press the main button, and pull back the plunger. After the tube is filled (the plunger is back all the way or as far as you wanted it), release the button, lift the nozzle out of the paint source, and snap on the paint head you want to use. With the plunger pulled out, the paint is under pressure, so be careful not to press it until you are ready to paint. Then, once you've covered all your edges using the Trim-It tool, covering the rest of the walls with a roller is quick and easy.So, with a little practice, I believe you'll find this to be one of the most valuable painting tools you can own. Typically when I start a painting project, I like to have two or three two inch (2") or smaller brushes around. With the Trim-It, I've eliminated the need for multiple smaller brushes, and can get by with just one of those smaller brushes for touch up work, saving me more money!ONE NOTE ON CLEAN-UP--------------------It does require a bit of attention. In reality, the device is a giant syringe, so you have a seal and some moving parts to keep clean. After removing the paint head, both ends snap off the main body, allowing you to make sure the inside of the device is clean and clear of paint. Pay special attention to the seal ring on the plunger. If you let paint dry on it, you may not get a good seal in the future, or might end up with dislodged paint pieces in the paint supply. If you can't spare time to detail clean it right away, disassemble the deice and let the components sit in a large container filled with water, so the paint does not dry out. I like to draw water into the tube before pressing the trigger to shoot it all out. With the print head attached, doing that lets you rinse the head nozzles from the inside out.
