A great little drill -lots of torque and runtime.

For the price, this drill is fantastic. If you've only let yourself use corded drills, or cordless electric screwdrivers you owe it to yourself to try out a high powered mini drill -be it this one, or one by Bosch Bosch PS20-2A 12-Volt Max Pocket Driver with 2 Litheon Batteries or Milwaukee Milwaukee 2401-22 12-Volt Li-Ion Compact Driver Kit. (I personally have both the Bosch and the Skil drills, and love them both.)What is great about this drill is that it holds a charge for a while, has a lot of torque, and is very light. Most people use the bigger drills for shorter jobs, and that is fine, but for long, repetitive jobs, like putting up cabinets, or installing drywall, this is a godsend. Over time lifting a regular sized drill gets very tiring, and storing or carrying it is pretty bulky -but not with this.I first saw a pocket drill like this when a contractor was hanging up drywall in my home. I asked him about it and he said for all day jobs it couldn't be beat. He only brought out the corded drill (a much larger one) for the biggest jobs, but this drill handled about 80% of everything else. He said that repetitive drilling was much easier with a small drill, and the little added bonus of an LED light on the end made it so much easier to find screws in cabinets or out of the way places, where there was no direct light (i.e. under sinks). The light alone meant he didn't need a helper shining a flashlight where he was drilling -a real benefit.The drill has two speeds -FAST, and TORQUE, which is standard for most drills, and the keyless chuck makes it super fast to switch bits in and out.One more thing. I tend to use this tool as an electric screwdriver more than a drill, because it has so much torque, and can get out almost any screw. (It will also twist short screws straight into wood without a pilot hole.) My wife loves it, too, because she has small hands, and this is something that she can easily carry around and use.Highly Recommended.

good drill

I got this drill during an amazon lightning sale and felt that the price was cheap enough to warrant giving it a try. I was in the process of moving and needed a drill/driver for numerous projects to be completed around the new house such as installing closet shelves, hanging curtains, replacing outlet covers, putting together furniture, etc. I bought this to replace an old Craftsman drill that no longer held a charge. The drill has performed well and the battery holds a charge much longer than my previous drill. Shortly after getting this drill I got a Bosch 18 volt drill as a gift and while the Bosch (at twice the price of this drill) has more power and what seems like slightly better build quality this drill was more than up for all the basic tasks I needed it for. Overall I would recommend this drill for anyone doing basic household tasks and looking for a lightweight drill with long battery life and power to spare.

I work on laptops and small electronics daily. I use precision screw drivers that by the end of the day my hand feels like mud. I've tried large drills in the past but they would be way too heavy and bulky to effectively do the work I needed. Along comes lithium ion batteries to save the day, and specifically Skil for creating a drill 30% smaller than a regular sized 12v drill. This combination is PERFECT! I have a drill that is portable (kudos to the terrific case it comes with), super light weight, uses any size bits (I use proprietary 1/8" precision bits) AND has a gear box capable of 1400rpm. Most drills only get you 500-600rpm but this baby is lightning fast. A quick change to a standard 1/4" bit and I can frame a house with this thing. The torque is THAT good. I have a 19.2v craftsman and it's a complete wimp compared to the Skil.For the computer techs - this drill will change your life. I can pop open 40 screws out of a laptop in under 60 seconds. I'm literally getting 3 and 4 times as much work done now. I feel if I had this drill when I started out some 18 years ago I would probably own a small third world country by now. Seriously. It's that good.
