Great tool.

I bought an unknown brand come-along/cable puller/power pullerin 1991 which has served me well in felling medium size trees.I am using it as a standard to compare against. I needed anadditional puller so I bought the Tekton 5547. The old one hadonly a single gear and the letdown/release mechanism requiredleather gloves to operate without pain or even injury. TheTekton has two gears and the mechanism is kind to the hands.Using vernier calipers, I measured the thickness of the steelforming the handles: 4mm for the old puller, which had bentslightly from use, and 5 mm for the Tekton, so I anticipatelittle or no bending. The steel forming the body was 5 mm thickfor the old puller, 6 mm for the Tekton. The cable diametermeasured 0.211 inches for the old puller, 0.233 for the Tekton.The old puller used bolts requiring a 17 mm socket, 5/8" socketneeded for the new puller (almost the same). Both pullersextended to the same length: as advertised, the Tekton spans 7'3" from hook in the front to the hook in the back. The openingon the hooks on the old puller started at 7/8" and widened outto 1"; motion of the safety clip left a 5/8" clearance. Thehooks on the Tekton are also 7/8" but don't widen out, so motionof the clips only leave a 3/8" clearance. This is a problem forthe 3/4" nylon rope I use - it is only with substantialdifficulty that the rope can be removed from a Tekton hook oncethe clip snaps over it. My solution was to deactivate theclip with a strip of duct tape locking it permanently into theopen position against the hook. The clip clearance is the onlynegative about the Tekton and is insignificant to me since theclips have always only gotten in my way. The Tekton made somealarming noises when cranked which disappeared when lighthousehold oil was applied liberally to all moving parts. Sofar I've only used it for one tree and it worked flawlessly. TheTekton 5547 is a great tool and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Stout construction, well designed, easy to follow instructions on the box. This was indispensable when I pulled my 5000 lbs. farm tractor out of 18" of swamp muck. At no point did this puller bend or show any signs of fatigue. The handle has a rubber grip, but I ended up sliding a 3' pipe over it because I had to pull so hard. Broke two tow straps rated at 2000 lbs and 4000 lbs each in addition to an 18" tree trunk in the process, so you can definitely trust the load rating if you use it properly. This thing rocks!

This is an excellent heavy duty puller. It works so much better in every way than my light duty one, including the ratchet system and its controls work very well too.It's very well made too. I'm very happy with it.
